Sussenguth's 43 points not enough for Ridgewater

WILLMAR -- Casey Sussenguth netted 43 points and went over the 1,000-career points plateau, but it wasn't enough for Ridgewater as the Warriors fell 84-83 in double overtime Wednesday to Riverland in a MCAC Southern Division men's basketball game.


The regular season ends for Ridgewater, which will now wait to see which seed it will get for next weekend's state tournament in Minneapolis.

Sussenguth, a 6-foot-8 post from Willmar, scored his 1,000th career point at Ridgewater on his first basket of the game. It came on a lay-in from after taking a pass from the top of the key at the 15:00 mark. Play was not stopped, but an announcement was made at the next break.

Sussenguth ended the first half with 15 points and was 15-for-17 at the free-throw line on the night.

Riverland shot to an early lead with three-pointers. The Blue Devils would sink 8-of-20 shots from outside the arc in the first half; A.J. Kortz alone was 5-of-10 on the way to 17 first-half points and a 43-34 lead for the Austin college.

Ridgewater then outscored Riverland 33-24 in the second half to force extra time.

Mike Weber added 14 points for Ridgewater while Kortz finished with a team-high 26 points for the Blue Devils.
