Swenson finishes 2nd in 800 at Big Ten Indoor Meet
Nikki Swenson, a Minnesota Gophers junior from Dawson, finished second in the 800-meter run and also anchored the distance medley relay team that placed second in the Big Ten Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships last weekend in State College, Pa.
Minnesota's quest for a fourth straight title came up short as the Gophers finished fourth. Penn State won the title.
Swenson ran 2:08.56 in the 800 and the relay team finished in 11:23.88.
She won two state cross-country titles and six other state titles in track and field in high school. She won the Tribune's Hengstler-Ranweiler Award in 2007.
Natalie Devine, a junior from Litchfield, also earned team points for the Gophers, finishing 16th in the high jump with a leap of 5-7.
