Swine farm workforce seminar is Oct. 18
MANKATO -- The Minnesota Pork Board and the Pork Checkoff are sponsoring a workforce development seminar from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Country Inn and Suites in Mankato.
The seminar includes keynote speaker Bruce Vincent, an agriculture advocate, speaker and third-generation logger from Libby, Mont. Vincent will address the impact of a generation of students who have been taught that "getting your hands dirty" is somehow less fulfilling work and how that thought process is dangerous for producers who feed, clothe and shelter humanity.
The conference also includes presentations from University of Minnesota professor John Deen on euthanasia training, information from Darwin Reicks of the Swine Vet Center in St. Peter on barn filtering systems and employee conflict management information from Donna Rae Scheffert.
The cost is $20 if registered by Oct. 10 and $40 at the door, space permitting. Register online at www.mnpork.com or by contacting Jeremy Geske at the Pork Board at 1-800-537-7675 or email@example.com.
