This year's symposium will be held Friday and Saturday at the U of M Morris campus. The theme of the symposium is Helping Minnesota's Small Towns Thrive.

Gubernatorial candidates will discuss how they feel public policies are improving small-town viability. The event's featured speaker will be Colleen Landkamer, Minnesota state director for U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development. She is a former president of the National Association of Counties.

The symposium will also feature a panel of "real people doing real stuff,'' emphasizing small communities with big success stories.

A special invitation to attend is extended to young people. Contributions from generous sponsors are making scholarships available for youth and adult attendees. Cost to attend the event is $65 per person. Low-cost lodging is available on campus or at area motels listed on the Web site.

For more information on scholarships and registration, go to www.centerforsmalltowns.org or call 320-589-6451.
