Syttende Mai events set in area communities
Events marking Syttende Mai -- literally May 17, which is Norway's Constitution Day -- have been set in area communities over the next three days.
In Norway, according to the country's official U.S. website, Norwegians fill the streets each year on May 17 to celebrate the 1814 adoption of the country's constitution.
Norway.org says the Norwegian Parliament held the first May 17 celebrations in 1836 and from then on, the day has been regarded as the national day.
