Tangen, one-time Murdock coach, to enter hoops HOF

Don Tangen, who began is coaching career at Murdock High School, will be inducted into the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in a ceremony on Sunday in Minneapolis.

Tangen coached the Irish from 1970-76, winning 63 games.

He coached at Glencoe and then Glencoe-Silver Lake the next 34 seasons finishing with a career record of 495-405 with seven state tournament trips.

Also being inducted is Hector native Perry Doney who coached from 1932-70. He spent 17 years at Wood Lake as head coach of four sports. He returned to his hometown in 1965, guiding the Mustangs to their first-ever District 12 title in 1968.

The MBCA HOF Banquet is at noon on Sunday at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Minneapolis.
