Teen faces assault charge, stabbed man multiple times

WILLMAR — A 17-year-old Willmar teenager pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a second-degree assault charge for allegedly stabbing a man Monday at a Willmar residence.

River Theodore Pendleton is scheduled to make his next appearance April 24 in Kandiyohi County District Court.

Felony charges against 16-and 17-year-old juveniles are public record.

According to the petition, the stabbing was reported to Willmar Police around 1:25 p.m. Monday in the northwest quadrant of the city. Officers and ambulance personnel found a man, bleeding heavily from his face and shoulder, in the driveway of the home. He was taken by ambulance to Rice Memorial Hospital.

At the hospital, the man was treated for seven stab wounds, including wounds to his face. chest, side, base of the neck, shoulder and thigh. The man said that Pendleton had stabbed him with a red fold-out knife with a 3- to 4-inch blade and that he had fought Pendleton off of him before the teen ran away.

Another adult at the residence said there had been an argument and that she saw Pendleton attack the man. She attempted to physically pull the boy away from the man and told officers Pendleton was acting increasingly erratic lately.

Pendleton turned himself into law enforcement later on Monday and was taken to Prairie Lakes Youth Programs.
