Tennis: New London-Spicer tops Litchfield in 3A
LITCHFIELD -- New London-Spicer and Litchfield are close in talent and results this fall and each has a one-point victory against the other this week.
But on a 35-degree, gray Thursday the No. 5 Wildcats got the one that mattered. With a big victory from Jenna Overman-Angie Wiegmann at 1-doubles, NLS ousted the No. 4 Dragons 4-3 in the Section 3A quarterfinals.
Overman-Wiegmann defeated Ashley Krug-Anna Haugo 6-2, 6-3, reversing Monday's outcome when the Litchfield pair won in straight sets.
In another key match, Megan Seipel at 3-singles avenged Monday's loss to Litchfield's Casey Willson, 6-3 and 6-0.
That neutralized Sara Kalenberg's 6-0, 6-4 victory over the Wildcats' Paula Beckermann at 1-singles. Beckermann had won on Monday.
Litchfield finishes the season with a 10-9 record.
New London-Spicer takes a 10-4 record to the section semifinals Tuesday at Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter to meet the winner of today's match between No. 8 seed Luverne and No. 1 Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd.
No report was available on the other matches scheduled for Thursday.
