Thelma J. Christenson Nov. 6, 1926 - Nov. 13, 2009

GLENWOOD -- Thelma Jessie Christenson, 83, of Glenwood, died Friday at her home.

The service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Memorials are preferred to Pope County Hospice.

She was born Nov. 6, 1926, in Glenwood to Olof and Frances (Hughes) Hausken. She graduated from Glenwood High School. She graduated from St. Olaf in 1948 with majors in chemistry and mathematics. She taught in Sisseton, S.D., in 1948.

On Jan. 29, 1949, she married L.E. 'Bud' Christenson in Glenwood. They lived in Echo for 2 years and then moved to Hector, where she taught chemistry until 1957. She finished her teaching career at Alexandria High School, where she taught mathematics for 20 years.

She was a member of the Euterpean Club, the Sweet Adelines and Glenwood Lutheran Church. She sang in First Lutheran Church and Calvary Lutheran Church choirs in Alexandria.

She is survived by her four children: Janet (and John II) Rahm of North Oaks, Steven (and Sally) Christenson of Holmes City, Ruth Christenson of Kandiyohi and Peter Christenson of Nelson; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; siblings: Nola (and Jerry) Mathre of Rockport, Texas, and Chester (and Irene) Hausken of Yakima, Wash.; and her special friend, Pat Kelleher of Glenwood.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother.
