Thomas J. Collins July 15, 1929 - May 7, 2009
DAWSON --Thomas "Tom" Joseph Collins, 79, of Dawson, died Thursday at Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, Dawson. Burial will be in the Dawson Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Hanson and Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson and one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born to David and Mary (McMahon) Collins on July 15, 1929, in Kandiyohi County. He grew up in the Kerkhoven and Murdock areas, attending school in Murdock.
He married Doris Sather on April 19, 1949.
He started his career in the grain industry in 1952. He held managerial positions in Herman, Ruthton, Cottonwood, Lamberton/Wabasso and Dawson. He retired in 1994. He was a member of the Western Grainmen's Association, and served as secretary and president. He also served for several years on the board of directors for AG Processing, Inc, based in Omaha, Neb.
He was a member of the Lions Club and participated in local politics and business development. He served on a number of church councils in the communities where he lived.
He is survived by seven children: Laurie Etrheim of Ramsey, Nancy Collins of New York, Kevin (and Carol) Collins of St. Paul, Sandy (and Ken) Stone of Minneapolis, Debbie (and Jeff) Moe of Dawson, Kurt (and Karen) Collins of Dawson, and Kim Collins of Anoka; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Ronnie (and Evan) Olson of Wheaton and Madge Osterbauer of Buffalo.
