Three jurors seated in Junkermeier murder trial in Willmar

WILLMAR — Three jurors, one woman and two men, were chosen this morning for the jury in the first-degree murder trial of Brok Junkermeier.

Junkermeier is accused in the strangulation and stabbing death of Lila Warwick, 79, in July 2013 at her home just outside Willmar.

Junkermeier’s trial, expected to last three weeks, is taking place in the Kandiyohi County Courthouse in Willmar. Jury selection continues this afternoon.

Judge Donald Spilseth said he expects jury selection to take much of the week, with opening statements from attorneys possibly taking place Friday.

In first-degree murder trials, jurors are questioned individually. Spilseth and attorneys for the defense and prosecution spent about 15 minutes with each potential juror this morning. They will be choosing 12 jurors and two alternates.
