Thunder storm rainfall once again floods southwest Willmar streets
A slow-moving thunderstorm rolled across Kandiyohi County about 6:30 a.m. Friday morning dropping more than 2.5 inches of rain and once again flooding streets and intersections in southwest Willmar.
Willmar intersections were flooded at:
10th Street and Kandiyohi Avenue S.W.
10th Street and Monongalia Avenue S.W.
9th Street and Monongalia Avenue S.W.
16th Street and Trott Avenue S.W.
The street flooding came from rainfall, pooling of water from the southwest Willmar drainage area and water backup once the drainage ditches filled up.
Willmar city and law enforcement officials were on the scene blocking off the intersections and rescuing stranded motorists.
Standing water was deep in the intersections and flooded upward into lawns, backyards and even into some basements.
Once the rain began to subside, shortly before 8 a.m., water levels started to subside by 8:30 a.m.
