Tinklenberg earns two more medals
MINNEAPOLIS -- Alissa Tinklenberg finished fourth Saturday at the Class A Swimming and Diving meet in both the 500 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.
The Willmar senior's time of 5:11.64 in the 500 reset her school record to 5:11.64. She posted a 5:14.57 on Friday in the preliminaries to shave .05 seconds off the school mark she already held.
She swam 59.36 in the backstroke, just off her career-best and school-record 59.03 on Friday in the University of Minnesota pool.
Tinklenberg ends up with 20 podium finishes in her six years on the Cardinals team. She holds four individual school records -- 200 free-style, 500 freestyle, individual medley and the backstroke -- and is on all three record-holding relays.
"That was an incredibly tough double that Alissa pulled off," stated Willmar coach Carl Shuldes. "There is only one event -- the 200 free relay between the two events and not a lot of recovery time. Numerous coaches commented on how impressive that double is."
Willmar finished with 30 points for 22nd place. Litchfield eight-grader Marissa Warren placed 13th in the butterfly.
Audrey Kumm of Hutchinson won three gold medals. Sartell's Marisa Wood scored meet records in both the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle to lead the Sabres to their first title.
Stillwater won the Class AA team title later on Saturday.
