Toops’ Spuds reach state wrestling

For the first time since 1981, the Moorhead Spuds’ wrestling team has reached the state tournament.
The Spuds, who are coached by New London-Spicer graduate Skip Toops, defeated defending 8AAA champion and No. 2 seed Little Falls, in the Flyers’ gym, 37-28, in the championship match on Saturday. Earlier the No. 1 seeded Spuds jettisoned No. 8 Sauk Rapids 52-17 and No. 5 Alexandria 37-28. This is Toops’ second year as the head coach.
