Top-ranked, unbeaten BBE seeks Class A title in first trip ever to state tournament

MINNEAPOLIS -- Chances are that if you visit Belgrade, Brooten or Elrosa at noon today, you might not find anyone at home, or they will be glued to their television set watching a boys basketball game.

The top-ranked and unbeaten BBE Jaguars (32-0) will play the Springfield Tigers (25-3) in the Class A state championship game at noon today at Target Center in Minneapolis.

BBE knocked off No. 5 MACCRAY in the Class A state semifinal game Friday. It is the first time the two schools ever met in a boys basketball contest despite the high schools being only 45 miles apart.

Kevin Kuefler led BBE with 25 points, while Connor Goodwin added 19 points, Brian Goodwin had 14 and Brady Koehler had 13.

BBE's championship appearance today comes during the school's first state boys basketball tournament ever.

Seth Hinrichs paced MACCRAY with 23 points, while Brady Boike added 17 points and Riley Aeikens had 11.

Springfield defeated Chisholm (28-4) 63-55 in overtime Friday in the other semifinal.

MACCRAY (27-4) will play Chisholm in the Class A third-place game at 10 a.m. today at Concordia University in St. Paul.
