Toys from weekend drive in Willmar, Minn., to be distributed to needy

WILLMAR — The Salvation Army and the Wal-Mart store in Willmar are working together to provide new toys and coats to local children this Christmas.
A “Fill the Truck” toy drive will be hosted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Wal-Mart, 700 19th Ave. S.E., Willmar.
According to a news release, the drive is open to anyone who would like to donate new toys for children. Wal-Mart shoppers will receive a list of suggested gifts to help fill the mobile disaster canteen which will be parked at the store.
Red Kettle bell ringers will be at Wal-Mart and other area businesses through Dec. 24. All donations made to red kettles will remain in Kandiyohi County and will help provide food, clothing, shelter, financial assistance and other services to those in need.
Last year, The Salvation Army provided toys and gifts for 650 children and holiday meals to 234 families.
Toys this year will be distributed to local children Dec. 19 and 20. Families must apply for assistance, and distribution will be by appointment only.
