It seems we have had to put a headline in nearly every week this winter with an area athlete reaching the 1,000-point mark in basketball. To date, eight boys and nine girls have gone over 1,000 points for their career. That doesn't include Mike Felt of Redwood Valley, who went over the 2,000-point mark, and Hancock's Bree Holleman, who went over the 1,500-point mark this season.

Michael Rodgers of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa is the lastest to accomplish the feat, having gone over the 1,000-point mark in his career on Saturday against Kimball. He joins Pierce Peters of Minnewaska Area, Jordan Tanner of Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, Taylor Freetly of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, Andy Kalenberg of Buffalo Lake-Hector, Nathan Nietfeld of Paynesville, Aaron Lindahl of Benson and Derrick Foss of Hancock. Girls hitting the four-figure mark in their career so far this season were Sarah Carlson of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, Kayla Dallmann of Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, Kelsey Guetter of Redwood Valley, Abby Fragodt of Benson, Emily Roelike of Belgrade-Brooten-El-rosa, Micaela Erickson of Lac qui Parle Valley, Kelsey Evans of Willmar, Jamie Wollin of Litchfield and Kelly Swenson of Dawson-Boyd.

There could be more added to the list this winter depending on how far their teams advance in the playoffs. Jordan Smith of Willmar has 937 points and Shaun Condon of MACCRAY is at 936.

Benson's Fragodt is 1,000-1,000 player

Abby Fragodt, a junior forward for Benson, not only scored her 1,000th point of her career this season; she also pulled down her 1,000th rebound. Against Minnewaska, in the Section 6AA playoffs on March 6, Fragodt broke the Benson career scoring record perviously held by Emily Jensen (1,134). With a year remaining, Fragodt has 1,138 career points.

"That's pretty remarkable," said Benson coach Mark Grussing. "Especially when she still has a year left."

Fragodt is the 10th player from the area, boys and girls, listed on the Minnesota scoring records to have over 1,000 points an d 1,000 rebounds in their career.
