Trophy measuring Jan. 31 in Spicer

SPICER -- Representatives of the Minnesota Official Measurers will be scoring trophy deer at Mel's Sport Shop in Spicer on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

There is no cost to measure a rack unless the individual wants to enter their buck in a respective record book. A rack or shed can be entered in the following record books: Minnesota Deer Classic, Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, Pope & Young, Boone & Crockett.

The cost to enter a rack is $15 prior to Feb. 1. The cost to enter a rack at the day of the Minnesota Deer Classic, the showcase for the record book, is $20. The Minnesota Deer Classic encourages entries prior to the show. This cuts down on the actual number of heads scored that day. There are a number of categories for entry: Typical Firearms-140 inches, Non-Typical Firearms-165 inches, Typical Archery-125 inches, Non-Typical Archery-150 inches, Youth, Non-Hunting, Shed, Bear Skulls & Moose Antlers.

For more information, contact Mel's Sport Shop at 320-796-2000 or Bill Pfingsten at 320-796-6990.

The Minnesota Official Measures was established in 1996 for the purpose of forming a big game measuring body whose primary interest is for the training and certification of it's members and scoring of Minnesota's Big Game animals.
