Twins close to signing Carroll
The Minnesota Twins are close to signing utility infielder Jamey Carroll to a two-year, $7.5 million deal, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
The 37-year-old Carroll spent the last two years with the Los Angeles Dodgers and hit .290 with a .359 on-base percentage last season.
He's a career .278 hitter.
Carroll didn't become a starter until he joined the Dodgers at age 36.
He previously played for the Montreal Expos, Washington Nationals, Cleveland Indians and Colorado Rockies in utility roles.
He played second base and shortstop for the Dodgers last year, and could challenge for the starting shortstop job in Minnesota.
The deal won't be official until he passes a physical, according to the Star Tribune.
