Two arrested after armed robbery

WILLMAR -- Two suspects have been arrested following an armed robbery in downtown Willmar Friday.

Angel Guzman Rodriguez, 20, of Willmar is in custody at the Kandiyohi County Jail. A 17-year-old juvenile male from Willmar is in custody at the Prairie Lakes Youth Program in Willmar.

Both were booked on suspicion of felony charges of second-degree assault, first-degree aggravated robbery and receiving stolen property.

The owner of the business, Quick Return Tax Service, 214 Third St. S.W., called police shortly before 4 p.m. Friday afternoon. The owner reported that two men had come into the business brandishing black handguns and demanding money, according to police reports and a news release from Willmar Police Officer Del Wagner.

The business owner was able to describe the two suspects. The business's surveillance video also aided police in developing a description of the suspects, according to the release.

The description was of two Hispanic males. One was described as wearing an Air Force jacket, a red Santa-style cap and sunglasses. The other was described as having a moustache and wearing blue jeans, a dark jacket and a stocking cap.

One of the suspects was spotted and arrested at about 10 p.m. Friday at Cash Wise Foods, according to police reports and the news release. The second suspect was arrested at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police executed a search warrant at about 3 a.m. Saturday at the home of the two suspects in the 1000 block of Seventh Street Southwest.

In the search, two handguns allegedly used in the robbery were found, as well as almost all the cash that had been taken in the robbery, according to the release.
