The new phone-in registration system and a new regulation prohibiting the cross-tagging of bucks are changes that hunters should be aware of this season, said Jeff Miller, assistant wildlife manager with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in New London.
While hunters may still bring deer to big game registrations if they like, they also have the option of registering their deer by phone or the Internet. To register a deer by phone call 888-706-6367 or by Internet, visit the DNR website (www.mndnr.gov). Be prepared to provide the nine-digit harvest registration number printed on your hunter's license.
Page 78 of this year's hunting and trapping regulation book spells out the prohibition on buck cross-tagging.
The new rule states: "A person cannot take and tag an antlered buck for another member of their party. This applies to all hunter license types and seasons. It remains legal to take and tag antlerless deer for members of a party."
