Two held in Willmar arson fire, ATV, vehicle thefts
WILLMAR -- A 20-year-old Willmar man is in the Stearns County Jail and a 17-year-old Willmar boy is in Prairie Lakes Detention Center and both are facing first-degree arson charges for a Tuesday morning fire in Willmar.
According to a news release from Willmar Police Sgt. Jim Felt, the local agency received information that two people had been arrested on unrelated charges Tuesday afternoon in Waite Park.
Investigators from the police department, Kandiyohi County Sheriff's office and the State Fire Marshal's office later connected the individuals to the garage fire reported around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday at 1212 9th St. S.E. and multiple crimes in Willmar, Kandiyohi County and other neighboring jurisdictions.
According to a news release from Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin, Waite Park Police also contacted his department with information that two four-wheelers and a snowmobile trailer reported stolen Monday from the Watkins area were located. Three people were detained and two allegedly admitted to the thefts. They were also in possession of a pickup reported stolen in Renville County.
One of the suspects was determined to not be involved and was released with no charges.
Additional charges, including motor vehicle theft, burglary, arson and property damage, are expected against the pair.
The investigation is continuing and more charges against the individuals are expected.
