Two suffer minor injuries in icy accident, road conditions difficult
RAYMOND -- Two South Dakota residents sustained minor injuries in a one-vehicle accident reported at 8:55 p.m. Monday about a mile south of Raymond on State Highway 23.
According to the State Patrol, Caitlin E. Schmieg, 18, of Watertown, S.D., was driving a 1997 Ford pickup southbound on the highway, began to slide on the ice, crossed the northbound lane and rolled the vehicle onto its side in the ditch. A passenger, Jeremy D. Dahlen, 20, of Lake Norden, S.D., sustained bruises and Schmieg suffered from a sore leg and bruises. Both were wearing their seat belts.
The Clara City Police Department assisted at the scene.
This morning, road reports to the Minnesota Department of Transportation show difficult driving conditions, with fog, reduced visibility, gusty winds and fresh snow, in Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Lac qui Parle and Yellow Medicine counties.
Road conditions are listed as fair in Renville, Redwood, Meeker and Stearns counties.
