Two Willmar soccer teams in state championship

WILLMAR -- After winning their respective district championships last Wednesday, two boys youth soccer teams from Willmar have advanced to state title matches.

The U-16 team won pool-play matches on Sunday and Monday to qualify for Wednesday's state championship.

Willmar will face North Star O1 at 5 p.m. in Coon Rapids in the title match.

The U-14 squad will also be playing a team from the North Star O1 program Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the state championship in Lakeland. Willmar also won its two pool-play matches on Sunday and Monday.

Willmar's U-12 team won a match and tied in another in its pool play and could play for the state title.

A match today will decide if Willmar plays at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the state championship in Lakeville.

The state tournament is sponsored by the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association.
