UPDATE 11 a.m.: Willmar, Minn., aquatic center has no health concerns

WILLMAR -- There has been no spike in swimming-related illnesses in the Willmar area, and the Dorothy Olson Aquatic Center will continue to operate as usual, city officials said today.

Steve Brisendine, director of Willmar Community Education and Recreation, said he had spoken to a representative of the local medical community today. "They have no issues with the aquatic center," he said.

Rumors have been circulating in the community and on Facebook about illnesses related to the pool.

There have been some cases of the usual summer-related and swimming-related illnesses in the community, he said, but there's been no community-wide spike that would cause alarm.

"There is no threat," he said. "We've got a green flag from the health community."
