WILLMAR -- It had to come sometime.

After an unusually warm fall, cooler temperatures and possibly snow are coming to west central Minnesota.

A Hazardous Weather Outlook statement from the National Weather Service lists the possibility of rain and snow over a large portion of central and southern Minnesota. The area includes Pope, Stearns, Lac qui Parle, Swift, Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Meeker, Yellow Medicine and Renville counties.

A high in the mid-40s is forecast today. Rain mixed with wet snow is expected to start during the day across much of the area and to switch to all snow after midnight.

Heavy snow is possible late tonight and Saturday in a line from Marshall to Storm Lake, Iowa.

In the Willmar area, the Weather Service forecasts a slight chance of snow after 3 a.m. Saturday and a 50 percent chance of snow during the day. Accumulation of less than one inch is forecast.

A low of 27 is forecast for Sunday night, but Sunday is expected to be partly sunny with a high near 41.
