Update: Dawson, Minn., man killed in head-on crash near Clara City

UPDATE: CLARA CITY -- A 29-year-old man from Dawson was killed Wednesday in a head-on collision near Clara City.

The Minnesota State Patrol identified the victim this morning as Jesse Tollakson.

According to the State Patrol, Tollakson was driving a 2001 Ford Ranger pickup west on state Highway 23 around 4:41 p.m. yesterday, about three miles east of Clara City, when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck an eastbound semi head-on.

The driver of the 2012 Kenworth semi, Michael A. Rost, 37, of Osakis, suffered no apparent injury. He was wearing a seat belt.

The pickup was totaled, and the semi sustained severe damage.

Traffic was detoured temporarily around the accident scene Wednesday evening.

The Chippewa County Sheriff's Office, Clara City Police Department and Dawson Police Department assisted at the scene.
