PERLEY, Minn. – A Norman County sheriff's deputy was shot and wounded early this morning near Perley.

Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist said his department has been called in to help in the search for the person responsible for shooting and that details surrounding the incident were unclear but he added that his department had been asked to help in the manhunt.

The deputy was shot during a traffic stop, WDAY TV's Kevin Wallevand said via Twitter. The deputy is expected to recover.

The Norman County Sheriff’s Department declined to answer questions, stating authorities there were busy dealing with the situation.

The incident near Perley reportedly happened around 8:30 a.m.

Perley is located just east of the Red River and roughly 23 miles north of Moorhead on U.S. Highway 75.

Update 9:45 a.m.: Norman County deputy shot near Perley; manhunt under way in northwest Minn.

PERLEY, Minn. – The Clay County Sheriff’s Department has been called in to help in the search for the person responsible for shooting a Norman County Deputy early this morning near Perley.

Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist said at 9:15 a.m. that details surrounding the incident were unclear but he added that his department had been asked to help in the manhunt.

The Norman County Sheriff’s Department declined to answer questions, stating authorities there were busy dealing with the situation.

The incident near Perley reportedly happened around 8:30 a.m.

Perley is located just east of the Red River and roughly 23 miles north of Moorhead on Highway 75.
