According to the State Patrol, Karen E. Simmons, 62, was killed when the 2013 Nissan Maxima she was driving collided with a vehicle in a broadside-type accident at the intersection of state Highway 29 and Pope County Road 28, north of Glenwood.

The driver of the other vehicle, Haley Klimek, 19, of Lowry was taken to the Glenwood Hospital with minor injuries.

The State Patrol says Klimek was going east on Pope County Road 28 when the 2005 Chevy Silverado she was driving struck Simmon’s vehicle, which was going north on state Highway 29.

The accident was reported at 7:45 a.m.

Roads were wet at the time of the incident and there was fog in much of the region this morning but the report doesn’t indicate if fog was a factor in the accident.

The Pope County Sheriff’s office assisted at the scene.
