Update: Mother and two young daughters killed on icy roads near Little Falls
LITTLE FALLS -- A woman and her two young daughters were killed last night on icy roads near Little Falls.
The three-vehicle head-on accident happened around 6:52 p.m. on state Highway 27, four miles west of Little Falls in Morrison County.
According to the State Patrol, Melissa Lorenz, 31, of Flensburg, and her daughters, 10-year old Angela and seven-year old Desiree, were killed.
The drivers of the other two vehicles were also injured but the injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.
The State Patrol said Lorenz was going west on Highway 27 when the 1997 Honda Passport she was driving crossed the center line and struck a 2005 GMC Sierra that was going east. The driver of the Sierra was identified as Robert Nieman, 56, of Little Falls,
A third vehicle, a 1998 Nissan Frontier driven by Kelly Rutz, 29, of Randall, then struck the other two vehicles. Rutz was going west on Highway 27.
Roads were reported in icy conditions following snow that fell across much of the state over the weekend. Alcohol was not detected in any of the drivers.
