According to a news release from Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin, deputies and crews from the Litchfield fire and rescue departments, along with Gold Cross Ambulance, responded to a 911 report of a vehicle on fire at the intersection of County Road 2 and 330th Street, Watkins. The pickup was fully engulfed in fire and was rolled over onto its roof. The victims had been ejected from the pickup before it caught fire.

Sheriff deputies have determined that the vehicle, a red 2001 Dodge Ram pick up truck was traveling northbound on County Road 2, and went partially off the road at the intersection of 330th Street where the truck then flipped and rolled multiple times ejecting both victims before the vehicle came to its rest on the county road and caught on fire. This incident is still being investigated by the Meeker County Sheriff's Office.
