Update: Patrol says child killed in Montrose, Minn., was thrown several hundred feet

MONTROSE, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota State Patrol says two people are dead after a vehicle veered off a highway in Wright County and struck a child waiting for a school bus.

The patrol says the 7-year-old boy waiting for the bus along Highway 12 died, as did the 47-year-old driver of the vehicle. Authorities tell KSTP-TV the child was thrown several hundred feet and died at the scene. The vehicle rolled over in the crash which happened shortly after 8 a.m. Friday near Highway 25 in Montrose.

Montrose is about 35 miles west of the Twin Cities.
