UPDATE: Redwood Falls, Minn., man is victim in goose hunting accident

DANUBE -- The Renville County Sheriff's Office says Nicholas J. Verdoes, 19, of Redwood Falls, was killed in a goose hunting accident Saturday near Danube.

According to a news release from Renville County Sheriff Scott Hable, a 911 call regarding the shooting was received around 9:45 a.m. Saturday. Emergency responders arrived to find a man with a single gunshot wound. He died at the scene.

According to Hable, further investigation by the sheriff's office revealed that a group of hunters had been hunting geese together when one of the hunter's guns accidentally discharged, striking the victim. None of the other hunters were injured.

The investigation is ongoing.

Assisting at the scene was the Danube First Responders, Olivia Ambulance Service and Danube Police Department.
