Update: State Patrol says Highway 71-9 crash involves fatality

NEW LONDON — The two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 71 and State Highway 9 west of New London involves a fatality, according to the State Patrol.

According to the Patrol’s website and a tweet by Public Information officer Jesse Grabow, the Patrol is on the scene of the crash, which happened around 11:15 a.m.

No further information was being released at this time.

According to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office, Highway 71 is closed north of Highway 9.

The crash involves a semi truck and a minivan, which emergency crews had covered with a tarp, according to Tribune photographer Ron Adams, who is at the scene.

A Lifelink helicopter had landed at the scene. Both vehicles came to rest off of the roadways.

Also responding were the New London ambulance and fire crews and Willmar Ambulance Service.
