UPDATE: Xcel expects power to be out until 11 p.m. Sunday
WILLMAR - Xcel Energy expects to restore electricity to communities affected by Friday's storms by 11 p.m. Sunday evening.
According to the energy company's website, customers are without power in Lake Lillian, Blomkest, Prinsburg, Clara City, Granite Falls, Wood Lake, Belview, Echo, Danube, Sacred Heart, Bird Island, Hector, Steward, Montevideo and Clarkfield.
Customers in Dassel, Cokato, Kingston and Watkins in Meeker County were also without power.
As of 8 a.m. Saturday, Xcel had restored power to more than 50,000 customers, of the 80,000 to 90,000 that lost electricity during the afternoon and evening summer storms.
According to information posted on the energy companies Facebook page, extra crews are working on outages will work today until all customers have been restored. As of 8 a.m. today, more than 9,500 remain without power in the west metro area and 7,800 in the east region.
The posting notes that thousands of customers are out of service in the outstate area, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Crews are working to repair the transmission and distribution systems in those areas.
Xcel hopes to have the majority of the outages resolved by late Sunday evening. However, the posting notes that the extent of damage may leave smaller groups of home or individual service loops without power for longer.
