Passenger Kimberly A. Mead, 44, of Willmar, was ejected from a Dodge Intrepid involved in the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the report from the Minnesota State Patrol, the Intrepid driven by Ronda L. Malvin, 43, of Raymond, was traveling southbound at 11:09 p.m. Saturday on Highway 22 near the Meeker County Road 18 intersection when the vehicle lost traction and slid sideways into the northbound lane and into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

A 1997 Ford Contour driven by Ruth M. Fisher, 43, of Hutchinson, then struck the Intrepid head-on.

The Ford Contour was then involved in a secondary collision with a 2001 Honda Civic. A 1998 Chevrolet pickup also traveling southbound on Highway 22 moved off the roadway to avoid being hit by the Dodge Intrepid.

Kimberly Mead died at the scene after being thrown from the Intrepid. Other Intrepid passengers injured were Barbara A. Wold, 55, of Spicer, and Diane K. Mead, 44, of Minot, N.D. Both are in critical condition, according to the State Patrol report. A fourth passenger in that vehicle, Michelle E. Malvin, 43, of Willmar, suffered non-life threatening injuries and driver Ronda Malvin suffered no apparent injury.

The Contour driver Fisher suffered a non-life-threatening injury.

The driver of the Civic, Anthony V. Kosek, 21, of Hutchinson, and his passenger, Cheyenne E. Madsen, 19, of Litchfield, both suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Pickup driver Alan W. Lopau, 24, of Litchfield, suffered no apparent injury.
