LAKE LILLIAN -- Vangie Helin, 88, of Bird Island, formerly of Lake Lillian, died Monday at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at United Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian with burial in the Community Cemetery in Lake Lillian.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the K-M Funeral Home in Lake Lillian and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born Sept. 25, 1919, in Osceola Township, rural Bird Island, to Henry and Anna (Rudeen) Thode. She grew up in rural Bird Island and attended country school.
She married Arnold Helin on Dec 21, 1941, in Renville. They lived in the Lake Lillian area most of their married life and moved to West View Village in Willmar in 1992. She resided at Elmwood Estates Assisted Living in Bird Island the past few years. She was a member of United Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian.
She is survived by her five children: Larry (and Barb) Thode of Casper, Wyo., Corine (and Galen) Grimm of Lake Lillian, Arvid (and Colleen) Helin of Olivia, Reyna (and Jerrel) Sharpe of Burnsville, and Laura (and John) Kundert of Monroe, Wis.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters: Lois Hedlund of Atwater and Vivian (and Lewis) Hedlund of Plymouth.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998, one brother and one sister.
