Vehicle into lake north of Willmar, man treated for hypothermia

WILLMAR -- A 24-year-old Willmar man was rescued from the top of his submerged vehicle and taken to Rice Memorial Hospital for treatment of possible injuries and hypothermia after a one-vehicle crash Tuesday evening.

According to Sgt. Gary Wyffels of the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's office, deputies were called around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday to the intersection of County Road 25 and First Street North, just north of Willmar. A witness reported seeing a vehicle go off the T-intersection and land several hundred feet out in to the water of King Lake.

Deputies arrived to find John Robert Peitz standing on his fully submerged car. Rescue workers swam out to bring him back to the shore.

The accident is under investigation by the sheriff's office.

Also responding were the Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad, the Willmar Fire Department, the Willmar Ambulance, and the Minnesota State Patrol.
