Verna A. Koosmann May 26, 1922 - April 30, 2009
APPLETON -- Verna Augusta Koosmann, 86, of Montevideo, formerly of Appleton, died Thursday at Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton. Burial will be in Appleton City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church and for one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are with Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapel in Appleton.
She was born May 26, 1922, in Shible Township, Swift County to George and Margaret (Schmidt) Loose. She attended rural District 42 and graduated from Appleton High School.
She married Sieghart Koosmann on Oct. 6, 1940, in Shible Township. They farmed until they retired in 1975 and moved to Willmar for two years. They moved back to Appleton in 1978 and, in 2004, they moved to Copper Glen in Montevideo. She was a homemaker and was a Mary Kay Beauty consultant for many years. She also sold Amway and Avon products. She was a 4-H club leader and was active in her church in Bible study groups, singing with the choir, working with ladies aid, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, was an officer in the Appleton Circuit and regional vice-president, and taught Sunday school for many years.
She is survived by seven children: Janice (and Gunard) Heikkila of Deer Creek, RuthAnn (and Daniel) Kershner of Twinsburg, Ohio, Roger (and Lois) Koosmann of Spicer, Daniel (and Jeanne) Koosman of Spicer, James Koosmann of Appleton, Gary (and Donna) Koosmann of Montevideo and Eunice (and Brian) Hallet of Richfield; 16 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; siblings: Dennis (and Char) Loose of Willmar and Evelyn Grages of Montevideo.
She is preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 10, 2008; son-in-law: Tom Eberlein; one great-granddaughter; one sister; and two brothers.
