Vernice J. Gatewood Aug. 9, 1929 - June 8, 2013

SVEA - Vernice J. Gatewood, Age 83, of Svea died June 8, 2013 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral Service will be 1 PM Wednesday June 12, 2013 at Svea Lutheran Church with one hour visitation prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Svea Lutheran Church Cemetery. Arrangements by Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Home, Willmar.

Vernice Jeanelle Gatewood (nee Allinder) was born August 9, 1929 in Willmar to Henry and Lilly (Lindblad) Allinder. She grew up in Fahlun Township and attended District 39 country school. She graduated from Willmar High School in 1946. Vernice was united in marriage to Stanley Gatewood on October 1, 1950. The couple lived and operated a dairy farm in Fahlun Township. They raised three children and in 1987 moved to Svea. Vernice was baptized and confirmed at Svea Lutheran Church making her a lifelong member. She was active in LCW, Quilters, Library, and Unit at church.

Vernice was always busy. She was very involved in her children's and grandchildren's lives. She made sure to bring her kids to piano lessons, swimming lessons, 4-H activities and band lessons. She and Stanley enjoyed watching the Svea Church softball games and attending their grandchildren's activities. Vernice loved going to Red Hats, Birthday Club, Home extension, "Chicks of '46", card party and was never too busy to stop at McMillan's for something to eat. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, embroidery, cross-stitch, knitting, baking cookies and homemade bread. Vernice also liked simply getting together and having coffee.

Vernice is survived by children: Judy Wetterling of Lake Lillian, Gene (Shelly) Gatewood of Willmar, Jill (Rich) Gill of Alexandria; five grandchildren: Jennifer Wetterling, Jessica Gatewood, Joseph Wetterling, Julie Gatewood, Jordan Gatewood; sister Irma Arnesen of Willmar; and many family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley on May 22, 2013, her parents, and her son in infancy.
