Vernon C. Molenaar

Vernon C. Molenaar, 88 of New London, died on July 28, 2014 at his home on Lake Andrew. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2014 at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and also for one hour prior to the service.

Vernon Clough Molenaar was born on October 17, 1925 in Renville, the son of Harry and Ivel (Clough) Molenaar. He lived in Renville until the age of 9 when the family moved to a farm near Prinsburg where he attend country grade school. In December of 1943 he entered the Merchant Marines where he served until 1946. In January of 1951 he was drafted into the Army where he served his country during the Korean War until 1953 when he was honorably discharged. On September 8, 1967, Vernon was united in marriage to Grace Sorenson in Willmar. They made their home on the family farm near Prinsburg until moving to their lake home on Lake Andrew in 2006. Vernon was a member of the Danube Lions Club for 27 years. He loved farming and planting trees.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Grace; sister, Gretchen (Lee) Henry; sisters-in-law, Harriet Molenaar, Joan Molenaar, and Wanda Molenaar; and seven nieces and nephews. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harry, John and Norman.
