Vernon Ludeman

Vernon Ludeman Dec. 24, 1928 - Nov. 1, 2013

SPICER - Vernon Ludeman, age 84 of Spicer, died on Friday, November 1, 2013 at Excelsior Place in Baxter. Funeral service will be 11:00am on Saturday at the Willmar Evangelical Free Church. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8pm on Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Vernon "Vern" LeRoy Ludeman was born on December 24, 1928 son of Ed and Dora (Hesebeck) Ludeman in Windom, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm near the town of Jeffers and graduated from Windom High School. Vern went to college at Mankato State College, where he played football for four years and graduated with a major in music education and a minor in physical education. He spent three years in the Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Doris Fanberg on June 9, 1951 at the Kerkhoven Evangelical Free Church in Kerkhoven. He furthered his education by completing both a masters and doctorate degree at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, CO. He returned to Minnesota to supervise student teachers at Mankato State College and went on to serve as the Assistant Dean of the Graduate School at St. Cloud State University for over 20 years.

Vern enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life. He also enjoyed sports, especially football. He made a point of watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports whenever possible. Vern was blessed with an excellent tenor voice. As a trained vocalist he sang all of the tenor solos in Handels Messiah. For years he sang solos in churches as well as participating in numerous church choirs and choral ensembles.

He was a member of The Willmar Evangelical Free Church. He also served on the Executive Board of the North Central District of the Evangelical Free Church.

Vern is survived by his brother, Ivan, of Richfield, MN, his three children, Lois (Jim) Anderson of Nisswa, MN, Doug (Anita) Ludeman of Chino Hills, CA, and Dale (Annette) Ludeman of Rockford, IL.; six grandchildren: Scott (Myndee) Anderson, Nathan (Erica) Anderson, Laura (Josh) Clagett, Daniel Ludeman, Gabriela Ludeman, Andrew Ludeman; three great grandchildren: Luke, Grant and Toriana (Scott and Myndee) and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Vern was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, of 62 years, parents Ed and Dora; brother Calvin (Vi), daughter-in-law Michelle (Doug) Ludeman.
