Veterans Affairs offering spring flood, storm relief assistance

ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs will offer spring flood and severe storm relief assistance in July to veterans and their families in numerous state counties.

According to a news release, the department will provide up to $300 in relief to a single veteran or surviving spouse of a veteran eligible for the assistance. If the veteran is married, has a child or the surviving spouse has a child, he or she could receive up to $600.

In west central Minnesota, the counties of Chippewa, Lac qui Parle, Swift and Yellow Medicine are eligible for the relief funds.

Applications for this program must be made through the respective county veterans service office. For more information, visit www.minnesotaveteran.org  or call 1-888-LINKVET (546-5838). All application must be postmarked before July 31. Funding could end before July 31 if funds are exhausted.
