Veterans Day events continue today and Tuesday in Willmar, Minn.

WILLMAR -- The annual display of military items at the War Memorial Auditorium in Willmar to mark Veterans Day opened Sunday.

The collections of Jon Lindstrand of Kandiyohi, Dale and Sharon Koenen of Clara City, along with the New Ulm Battery's original Civil War brass cannon, will be on display in the auditorium from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. again today and Tuesday.

Several Veterans Day events in the region were Saturday and Sunday, and more are scheduled today and Tuesday.

A free breakfast for veterans and their spouses, seniors and their families will be served from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. today at Sterling House in Willmar. There will also be a tribute to veterans.

A free dinner for veterans and guests will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the American Legion in Willmar. The meal is provided and prepared by local veterans and friends of veterans.

The Willmar American Legion Auxiliary will have a program and thank you for area veterans today at the Willmar Legion. It will begin with a social hour at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. for $4.

There will be a special program at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the War Memorial Auditorium, honoring Cold War veterans. According to the Department of Defense, a Cold War veteran is one who served from Sept. 2, 1945, through Dec. 26, 1991. Each veteran will receive a special certificate of appreciation for their service presented by the Harry Sieben, civilian aide to the Secretary of the Army. There will be a social hour from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
