VFW Baseball: Morris scores early, staves off Willmar in District 5 opener
MORRIS — The Morris VFW team took an early lead and held off Willmar to win 4-2 on Tuesday in the first round of the District 5 playoffs.
Morris scored two runs in the first inning and tacked on another two runs in the second to take a 4-0 lead into the fifth.
Willmar scored twice in the top of the fifth but couldn’t dent Morris starter and winner Brady Jergenson in the final two innings.
Jergenson worked all seven innings, allowing five hits and striking out eight.
Morris’ Trent Marty had two hits and drove in two runs.
Willmar’s Brayden Sunder had one of the team’s five hits and Dalton Rambow drove in both Willmar runs.
Willmar’s Tyler Johnson pitched well, working six innings and allowing four hits while striking out eight.
Willmar plays Ortonville on 11 a.m. Saturday in Glenwood while Morris is idle until Friday when they take on the Alexandria 15s
