VFW Baseball: Willmar I crushes Madison
MADISON — Josh Tinklenberg, Jacob Robinson and Brandon Wedel all drove in three runs apiece and combined to collect 8 hits Thursday to help Willmar I stymie Madison 17-2 in five innings in a VFW baseball game.
Willmar’s early 2-1 lead turned into a 9-1 advantage after sending up 11 batters to the plate in the second inning to produce seven runs. Bryce Broman walked and scored to lead off the inning before knocking in Wedel with a single to cap the scoring in the frame.
Willmar banged out 15 hits and also scored three times in the third and sent up 11 batters in the fourth as well to manufacture another five runs. Tinklenberg and Robinson had three hits each while Austin Smith scored three times and drove in another two runs.
Wedel struck out six and gave up just one hit in three innings of work to earn the win for Willmar (4-1, 8-3), which hosts Montevideo today at 6 p.m. on Swansson Orange.
