VFW baseball: Willmar I pounds Willmar II
WILLMAR — A four-run first inning set the tone for a meeting of Willmar’s two VFW baseball teams on Tuesday at Bill Taunton Stadium.
Josh Tinklenberg drove in two of Willmar I’s first-inning runs and they downed Willmar II 10-1.
Tinklenberg had two hits and he scored four runs and Zach Radermacher was 2-for-4 and drove in four runs. Brandon Wedel singled in both his at bats and had 2 RBIs.
Radermacher started and worked three no-hit innings for Willmar I, walking just one a striking out four. Isaac Kobenia allowed just one hit in three innings of relief and Nate Ackerman worked the final inning.
Jonathan Linden and Matt Flaig had Willmar II’s hits, Linden hitting a double in the sixth. Trae Murphy drew a walk leading off the seventh inning and scored on Flaig’s single.
Willmar I is 4-2 and plays next in a tournament in Watertown, S.D., on Saturday and Sunday.
Willmar II fell to 0-3 and plays Spicer on Friday at Swanson Orange.
