Viola Helmstetter May 26, 1913 - Jan. 5, 2009
BELGRADE -- Viola L. Helmstetter, 95, of Belgrade, died Monday at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Belgrade. Burial will be in Grace Lutheran East Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born May 26, 1913, in Belgrade to Henry and Ida (Glauvitz) Kaack. She grew up in rural Belgrade where she attended country school and received her Public Schools of Stearns County Diploma.
She married Emil Helmstetter on Oct. 18, 1936, in rural Belgrade. They farmed near Belgrade. She worked as a cook at the Belgrade Nursing Home from 1966 until she retired in 1976. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she was in the choir, women's organizations, and taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens Center, Senior Dining Center, the readers club and was a volunteer with the sing-a-long at the Belgrade Nursing Home for 20 years.
She is survived by her children: David (and Eileen) Helmstetter of New London, Rachel Helmstetter of St. Cloud, Chuck (and Carole) Helmstetter of Fargo, N.D., Adele (and Darrell) Hanson of Duluth, and Allen (and JoAnn) Helmstetter of Evansville, Ind.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one brother: Detlof Kaack of Belgrade.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978; a daughter: Ethel Malmer; five sisters; and two brothers.
