RENVILLE -- Virgil Luella DeGree, 88, of Renville died Saturday at RenVilla Nursing Home in Renville.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Renville. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at Renville.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the church and for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Renville.
She was born Oct. 24, 1920, in Emmett Township near Renville to Henry Brummer and Luella Danielson. She attended country school District 37 and graduated from Renville High School in 1937. The summer following graduation, she worked as a secretary at Daly and Barnard Law Office.
On Aug. 29, 1939, she married Leonard DeGree. They lived on their farm one mile east of Renville. She worked at the Renville Nursing Home as an aide and in the craft department. She received the Bishop's Medal of Honor in 1993 for her work in the parish and community. After Leonard died in 1986, she continued living on the farm until 1995 when she moved to an apartment in Renville and, later, to East Ridge Court. She was a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and Counsel of Catholic Women.
She is survived by her children: Ruth Ann (and Jim) Johnson of Cottage Grove, Leonard (and Brenda) of Renville, Mary (Chuck) Huselid of St. Louis Park, Lois (Don) Ridl of Fulton, South Dakota, Richard of Philadelphia, Ellen (and Randy) Panzer of Sycamore, Ill., Mildred (and John) Carlson of Bark River, Mich., M. Jane (and Kurt) Albeck of Osseo, Paul (and Colleen) of South Haven, Annette (and Gary) Bentzin of Redfield, S.D., Judy (and Kevin) Rosaasen of Andover and Michael (and Diane) of Spicer; 29 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are siblings: Odella Raymond, Ruth Randleman, Milly (and Wayne) Zaske and Tom (and Marlene) Brummer.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son: William, two grandsons, one granddaughter; three brothers; and three sisters.
