Virgil Mortenson Oct. 16, 1924 - Oct. 3, 2009
GRANITE FALLS -- Virgil Arcade Mortenson, 84, of Granite Falls died Saturday at Granite Falls Manor.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Granite Falls.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Granite Falls.
He was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Big Stone County north of Correll to Martin and Mary (Shelstad) Mortenson. He graduated from Correll Public School. He farmed with his father and had a Brown Swiss dairy herd.
He married Louise LaCombe on Sept. 23, 1951. They lived on the family farm. In 1970, he decided to quit farming. They moved to Benson and worked at Fingerhut. Shortly after Fingerhut closed, they moved to Granite Falls and he attended Granite Falls Technical College and received his associate degree in Fluid Power. He worked as a machinist for many years. He retired, due to failing eye sight, and did maintenance work at Henry Hill Apartments and River View Apartments for several years.
He is survived by his wife; sons: Jerry (and Kathy) Mortenson of St. Charles, Mo., Brian (and Sue) Mortenson of Wahpeton, N.D.; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister: Mavis (and Bill) Beck of Lewiston, Idaho.
